Kelly: Happy 70th Birthday, Janet! Janet, I not anly have had the good fortune of marrying your daughter, Karen but I also met you -a very special woman who has shown me that one can in fact do it all, with class and style! Somehow “Super Mom” doesn’t seem quite enough when describing you, for a lucky few of us it would also include “Super Mom-in-Law" and “Super Person” I think, fits the bill for all who have known you. I am so honoured to be celebrating your very special milestone with you. Your kindness and thoughtfulness towards me since the beginning mean more than perhaps you realize and I thank you. Karen and the rest of the kids are very, very luck and I’m glad they all realize it! Love, Kelly Ingunn: I remember the first time I met your Mom, having heard nothing but praise about Janet, from Aunty Goody, for many years. Who was this wonder woman - mother, nurse etc etc? One sunny afternoon a station wagon stopped under the big trees across the street from our house. Out poured a seemingly endless stream of kids, Tom, a mother cat and kittens and the unflappable JANET. This mother had survived what must have seemed like a very long drive across the prairies to West Vancouver. I was impressed! And over the years I have remained impressed by this woman who has been the mother to a very fine . brood of chicks. She has fought for them, believed in them instilled a sense of right and decency in them, cooked an awful lot of food for them, and built a strong sense of family around them (oh and I must not forget about the seemingly endless stream of kittens). I don't know how she did it all and nursed at the same time. She must have been so tired so often. But it seems to me that her sense of humour was intact and she was a good friend for me - trying to raise only two and not feeling that confident about this task at times. I loved her sharing Brian's comment about, "poor Ingunn - only two kids!" I loved her example of caring for her own mother and Tom's - buying Goody nice things to wear - just being aware of the kinds of things that would please Goody and make her happy. She showed me "how you do it" so I knew better what to do for Eve Kemble. I have loved her stories about Tom, he,' kids, her life, her work. All told with that edge of a laugh even when things were tough when she was ill. In short, I love your Mom and although we don't see each other very often now, I value her. So Happy birthday Janet Love from Ingunn and all of us – Michael, Anna and Martin
