Janet opened the door to the Hill family for us. It all began almost 20 years ago when she responded to a newspaper ad for a teacher looking for room and board. She expected a woman and got a man instead. From that day forward she, continually included me, and my soon to be family, into her life and the life of her family. She did this without judgment and with open arms. She was a surrogate mother to Lynette and I and a “B.C. grandmother” to our children, Julian and Quinten. Janet’s love for life and family, her generosity, and her deep caring for people was reflected in all she taught us: Her wonderful cooking taught me how to enjoy food that wasn’t Italian. She taught Lynette how to quilt. She taught us how to parent – whether it was keeping the kids busy with pots and pans or by sharing her own parenting stories. As toddlers, she taught our kids how to go up and down stairs safely. She taught us about hard work and what it meant to grow up with very little in the prairies. She taught us how to laugh at life’s follies, and how to persevere through life’s struggles with your head up, and pride intact. She taught us how to keep your spouse in place when needed! She taught us how to keep our minds open by trying new things and experiencing new people. Most of all, however, she taught us how to love with open arms. Life is not measured by the money you make or the material goods you possess – for those things can not feel. Life is measured by the lives you touch and the love you leave. By sharing her love and opening the door to all of the Hill family, Janet has touch our lives much more than you can imagine. The Renzetti’s will deeply miss you Janet. On behalf of Lynette, Julian and Quinten, my deepest sympathies go out to Tom and all of the Hill family. Adrian
